To Give or Not to Give?

I have always taught that residual philanthropy is the highest form of tithing.  A business which is set up to specifically fund a charity or cause, is the best for at least two reasons; first, because it allows that charity or cause to do the most good because it has funding, and secondly, because that type of business works toward the greater good of the community.

When a businessperson reaches this point of consciousness in the way they do businesses, they have reached the pinnacle of ethical business practices.  A business is part of the community, and is the base for its existence (aside from natural resources).  When a business chooses to only take for selfish gain, it damages the community because it is not giving back.

Every business needs to make a profit, but part of every profit should go towards a charity or cause that uplifts the community.  The business owner should recognize that when the community thrives so, will his business and profits.  The business owner who has a strong community grounding will have a great standing in the community.  In my newest motivational series, Rip-Roaring Wealth©! I use the late, great Paul Newman to illustrate a point about the value of residual philanthropy:

“One of the people who exemplified residual philanthropy was successful movie star, Paul Newman.  What he and his wife did was amazing.  Paul was inspired to create a salad dressing, because he wasn’t impressed with a salad dressing he ordered while in L.A.  Paul began to hand the dressing out to his friends as gifts, and became wildly popular among his friends, who kept asking him for more.  Since Newman had no desire to be in the salad dressing industry, he decided to make it a philanthropic endeavor, giving birth to Newman’s Own Salad Dressing.

Newman decided that he wanted to give all the profits, after taxes, to charity.  It was important to Newman to select a significant charity; this caused him to find a hole in the wall gang.  He collected together the sickest kids in America, and discovered that the price tag to cure them was $100 million dollars a year.  The price tag didn’t scare Newman, it simply pushed him to find a solution. After much pondering, Newman decided that the solution was creating a Newman’s Own restaurant chain that would generate 100 million dollars a year needed to provide care for those families who could not afford it.

I’m sharing this with you today to squash the myth of charity being a platform to beg for money. There are boundless amounts of money available; all you have to do is discover the solution to making that money work for a charitable cause.  All it takes is creating one idea, and you could solve a national crisis.  You + one idea= a fortune.  Paul Newman isn’t the only person who can do it either.

Abundant giving allows for abundant wealth.  Spiritual law says that you shall give, and then you will receive.  You must give a breath before you can take a breath.  The universe runs on reciprocal action, so the more you give, the more you receive.  I am here to teach that if you want to be enlightened, you must come from a place of abundance, create massive value for others, and leave a legacy worthy of your generation. ”

It only takes one person to make a lasting difference in this world.  It only takes one idea to start something amazing.  When you construct your business’ budget, include tithing.  Doing so will almost guarantee a good profit, and a healthy community!
